Q. Who is putting on this festival?

A. The Sky Climbers Kite Club of Macomb, Illinois, in partnership with the Macomb Balloon Rally, the Macomb Park District, and the Macomb Area Convention & Visitor’s Bureau are the organizations putting on this event.

Q. What is the purpose of this event?

A. The mission of the Macomb Kite Festival is to provide a fun outdoor event for people of all ages, budgets, and abilities to gather together and enjoy the magnificent sport of kite flying.

Q. How much does it cost?

A. This event is free and open to the public. There will be some vendors on site.

Q. Who is funding this event?

A. This event is being underwritten by the event sponsors, listed on our sponsors page.

Q. What should I bring?

A. We highly suggest you bring the following:

  • a kite if you have one
    (Note: if you have a professional kite, please contact us so we can assign you a space appropriate to fly it.)
  • a chair or blanket for seating
  • sunscreen
  • sunglasses
  • a hat with a brim (since you’ll be looking up a lot of the time)
  • water to drink
  • a camera
  • a kite if you have it
  • walking shoes
  • cash if you wish to purchase items from vendors. Note: On Saturday, from 11:00 – 1:30, children will receive a free hot dog and lemon shake-up (while supplies last.) 

Q. Can I touch the kites?

A. There will be a kite making station where you can make your own kite and receive line to fly it.

The professional kites are expensive specialty kites flown on various types of strong lines, including kevlar. The only people permitted to touch a kite or line is the kite owner or event staff. Please refrain from touching kites or line, or stepping over lines.

The one exception is the family fun field. Participants may assist each other with kites as necessary so long as no large kites are on the field.
